BARBARA KOSTA

Dr. Barbara Kosta completed her B.A. and M.A. in German at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and has studied in Munich, Heidelberg and Berlin. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, where she specialized in twentieth-century German literature, film and women's studies.

Her publications include Recasting Autobiography: Women's Counterfictions in Contemporary German Literature and Film (Cornell UP. 1994), a first-year German language textbook Auf Deutsch! (1990, co-authored with Helga Kraft), and in 2003, she co-edited Writing against Boundaries: Ethnicity, Gender and Nationality (Rodopi). Other publications include articles on twentieth-century women writers, postwar German literature, German cinema and visual culture.

Among her interests are feminist and gender theory, media studies and cultural studies. She runs the German Department film series. Currently, she is working on a cultural history of Josef von Sternberg's The Blue Angel.
